Early Morning Fathers Day

After a long break from graduate school I thought it was time to post another blog. This one is entitled "Early Morning Fathers Day" that consists of Lincoln's downtown from 3:30-6:30. As I have mentioned before in earlier blogs shooting at night is a magical time for me that usually produces multiple images in a relatively short time frame. At night I generally bring a minimal amount of gear and this Sunday was no exception: Canon 60D, Tamron 10-24mm, Manfrotto tripod, shooting vest w/ extra batteries, flashlight, etc. Thanks for viewing and feel free to leave a comment.

February 2015: New Direction

Hello,

This is my first post of 2015 and as many of you know that follow me on FB I have dramatically changed my style. The catalyst for change is simply wanting to challenge myself in other avenues of photography that I can still stamp my own identifiable style too. Other factors are time or the lack of, locations (closer to home), and the use of Neutral Density filters that are forcing me to slow down my process in exchange for better composed images-hopefully.

With only two weeks left of Graduate classes and a big final in April I am looking forward to a busy summer and fall of 2015. Having a photography "hit list" a mile long I'm anticipating a wide variety of locations and subjects that I can't wait to capture. Appreciate everybody's supportive comments in 2014 and look forward to sharing this years images as well. Below is an eclectic assortment of my favorite images of 2015 so far.

Feel free to leave a message or email me at any time with questions, comments, or what ever is on your mind-again thanks for looking! ronquickmail@yahoo.com & https://500px.com/rquick

December Abstracts

Hello,

Here is my final blog post for 2014 and one that varies from the norm. I recently acquired a 10stop neutral density filter (dark lens) that acts like sunglasses for your camera. This lens forces the photographer to set the camera to a long exposure allowing enough light into the camera to capture an image and in turn creating a very sharp image providing the subject stays motionless. Many older photographs from the first half of the century used long exposures due to the lack of image stabilizers and are exceedingly sharp with detail. In addition many artist including Ansel Adams used older style cameras to pick up the maximum amount of detail.

Coupled with this new piece of glass and a recently purchased Sigma 70-200mm 2.8f lens I hope to gradually change my imagery over to better quality ones. This means slowing down my process and the amount of images captured and focusing more on elements of composition, such as exposure times, textures, details, and ultimately more control over light. Finally, I plan to expand my portfolio to not just urban abstracts (still my favorite) but other genres of photography that include nature, abandoned structures, & landscapes.

Below are just a few images that might be a preview to 2015.

Had a few hours late this afternoon to get out and enjoy the weather. As usual headed for the West Hay-market area and made a few stops on the way.

October Abstracts

Hello,

Its been well over a month since my last post so I found time at 3:30 this morning to do a little shooting.  Went down to the Hay-Market area in Lincoln(again) and enjoyed an hour or so of wondering the streets with my old Canon 60D and fixed tripod. As I have mentioned before shooting alone in the quiet of the night is a wonderful time for me, its when I find myself truly focused on my environment without any major distractions. Its possibly not the safest or sanest time for anyone but it works for me and one that I relish for its magical qualities.

August Abstracts

Its been awhile but I managed to get out last Sunday to do some shooting at the old state fair grounds now Innovation Park and at Union Plaza. Hope to keep my photography going into the fall but I just started my "Capstone" project to close out my graduate degree that will require evenings and weekends typing instead of shooting. However, might just have sneak out occasionally...

FAC-Images

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to leave work early and naturally headed down-town. With triple digit heat index I'm sure people thought I was crazy. However, a hot day shooting photography is still better than laying on the couch or at work. In the end I was lucky enough to come home with four nice images.
